Miko Professional Storyteller Headshot

Hi there! My name is Miko, and for over 36 years, I’ve been running tabletop role-playing games — building homebrew worlds, leading long-form campaigns, running convention one-shots, youth games, and private events across dozens of systems. What began as a lifelong passion has gradually become something more: a craft that people have consistently returned to, recommended to others, and asked me to continue.

When the local store I had been working with closed its physical space, I continued running games and campaigns independently. The demand didn’t disappear — it grew. Formalizing that work into a business was the natural next step.

Today, I design and run appointment-based tabletop experiences for:

  • Private home groups

  • Youth games and birthday events

  • Corporate team-building sessions

  • Ongoing long-form campaigns

Sessions are available in person throughout Northern Virginia and the DC area, as well as online.

I regularly run:

  • Dungeons & Dragons (5e and earlier editions)

  • Daggerheart

  • Star Trek Adventures

  • World of Darkness

  • Shadowrun

  • Dragonbane

  • And a rotating selection of indie and narrative systems like Library Cats

  • and many more

Each system is adapted to the players at the table — not the other way around.

Behind the scenes, I treat storytelling as both craft and service. That means clear communication, consistent scheduling, professional standards, and thoughtful preparation — balanced with improvisation when the story demands it. Most of all, every game I run is tailored to the needs of the group of players before me.

My Approach to Storytelling

At the table, my role is equal parts facilitator, performer, and guide. Mechanics matter — but the people matter more.

I build spaces where players feel safe to take creative risks. Where humor and tension can sit side by side. Where a joke can land in one moment and a hard emotional choice can land in the next.

I don’t run games with one narrow “right” style of play. I meet groups where they are:

  • New players feel welcomed and supported.

  • Experienced players feel challenged and surprised.

  • Every person has a meaningful seat in the story.

Long-form storytelling is especially important to me. When characters grow over months or years, when decisions carry weight, and when players begin to see the world respond to their actions — that’s where tabletop games become more than an entertaining hobby.

They become a shared history, memory, and joy.

NOVA Storytelling exists to create that kind of experience — consistently, intentionally, and professionally.
